KG Teacher Receives National Science Award

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (February 28, 2014) – Kindergarten Teacher Kristen Poindexter was recently announced during an all-school convocation as the 2014 Shell Science Teaching Award winner. Mrs. Poindexter received the Shell Science Teaching Award for her positive impact on her students, school and community through exemplary classroom science teaching.

“Kristen helps her students experience learning in an environment that connects the standards she is required to teach, within authentic concepts and contexts,” said Spring Mill Principal Subha Balagopal. “When we think about inspiring children to grow up and tackle anything, Kristen does this and more. She is growing young scientists who are inquirers and thinkers. This esteemed recognition of a kindergarten teacher is a powerful reminder of the importance of science education in the early years.”

As the Shell Science Teaching Award recipient, Mrs. Poindexter will receive a $10,000 cash prize and an all-expense paid trip to attend the NSTA National Conference on Science Education in Boston April 3 – 6, where she will be honored for her achievement at a special banquet and ceremony.
