A new program is slated to come to the J. Everett Light Career Center (JELCC) during the 2015-2016 school year. Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT), which includes Robotics, Machining, CNC Machining, and 3D Printing, will be a new one or two year, 3 hours per day, dual credit.

Recently, 25 aspiring AMT students gathered to learn firsthand about this new opportunity. Curiosity, the focus of math, science, and technology, and the opportunity to use their hands and minds to create 3D objects and designs were among the common reasons for attending an informational session, expressed by the attendees.

Students learned about future opportunities such as a CNC Machine Operator, Computer Controlled Machine Operator, and Machinist and were inspired by the immediate openings, hourly rates of pay, and the potential for ongoing advancement in the industry. Details about non-traditional opportunities and the chance to work while going to school were also very attractive to the group comprised of male and females that are currently enrolled at North Central High School.

“This program will prepare students for employment with companies that have implemented team oriented design, production, quality, and maintenance systems within the manufacturing environment,” said Shawn Wright-Browner, the Center’s Director. “With the recent Hoosier Hot 50 Jobs announcement and STEM being a key component for the growth of the state, we are very excited for the J. Everett Light Career Center to offer this credit.”
