INDIANAPOLIS, IN (October 1, 2015) – Following her nomination by the Governance Committee of the International Baccalaureate’s Board of Governors, Dr. Nikki C. Woodson has been elected to the Board of Governors of the International Baccalaureate (IB) for a three year term, effective 1st of October 2015. The IB Board of Governors plays an important role in setting the strategic direction of the IB organization. In addition to appointing the IB Director General, the Board is responsible for:

• adopting a mission statement
• making policy
• overseeing the IB’s financial management
• ensuring the autonomy and integrity of IB diploma examinations and other student assessments.

Dr. Woodson takes with her a passion for improving education in public schools and a deep understanding of the IB and its benefits not only for students but for educators as well. Prior to this appointment, she served as a member of the IB Heads Council and the IB Regional Council. She will offer an invaluable knowledge and experience of the state sector to the board.

“I am elated about this appointment,” said Dr. Woodson. “I know that my involvement with IB on this level will only strengthen and further support our efforts here in Washington Township, where we deliver IB to EVERY student in EVERY school.”

Appointed in 2011 as the Superintendent of Schools for the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township, Dr. Woodson has led the district to be one of the few public schools worldwide to offer the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programs to all students in all schools within the district. Washington Township is a K-12 urban public school district with over 12,000 students and nearly 1,500 employees.
