NCHS Dance Instructor Awarded
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (December 14, 2015) – Dance and Physical Education teacher at North Central High School Mrs. LeAnn Haggard, has been awarded The Meritorious Service Award, by the Midwest District Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE). Mrs. Haggard was selected to represent the Midwest from among nominees in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The Meritorious Service Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated distinguished service to health, physical education, recreation, dance and/or sport. Recipients are persons of personal integrity who exemplify the spirit of devoted service to the profession.
LeAnn Haggard has worn many hats over the years serving Indiana, the Midwest and National organizations. She has served the state organization as a Dance Vice President. She was the Vice Preseident for the Dance, Sport and Physical Education Council for Midwest, and currently holds the position of chair for the Advocacy and Communications committee for Midwest. She has presented multiple sessions at Midwest District leadership conferences and at the National level has presented many sessions as a National Teacher of the Year.
LeAnn has her undergraduate degree from Ball State and her master’s degree from IUPUI. She was the National Dance Educator of the Year in 2006 and Indiana’s secondary Teacher of the Year for Physical Education in 2011. She was the cover story for Dance Teacher magazine and has authored several children’s exercise CD’s through Kimbo Educational. She travels around the country doing presentations. LeAnn is currently a full time teacher at North Central High School in Indianapolis where she teaches dance and Physical Education.
