MSDWT Supt. Completes AASA National Supt. Certification Program

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (March 8, 2016) – Excellence in leadership in our nation’s public schools took a major step forward when AASA, The School Superintendents Association, announced the 2016 class of superintendents to earn National Superintendent Certification.

Dr. Woodson is just one of 25 Superintendents (per cohort) accepted nationwide to this 24 month program. “I am honored and privileged to participate in this important national certification program,” said Dr. Nikki Woodson. “The need for collaboration amongst school leaders is critical in this difficult educational climate and the expertise and experience offered by the School Superintendent’s Association through this National Certification Program is invaluable.”

Launched in 2013, the program focuses on sharpening the skills that successful superintendents acknowledge are needed to thrive on the job, and provide a relevant experience for program participants. Noting that the school district is often the biggest “business” in the community it serves, managing the largest budget and supervising the greatest number of employees, the superintendent’s position was originally created to be the community’s educational leader, not the CEO of its schools. As the field of public education evolves, a superintendent must now be capable of balancing both roles. The AASA is helping to address the challenges that arise when trying to be both an educational leader and CEO, through the National Superintendent Certification program.
