The Half Time Huddle
NC Athletics continues its long-standing partnership with IU Health and Methodist Sports Medicine, by giving back to the MSDWT community. This school year, the partnership will bring a series of informational seminars relating to sports medicine and injury. On the schedule to present are professionals in the industry, ranging from orthopedic specialists to staff physicians for the Indianapolis Colts. Athletes in Washington Township Schools, their parents, coaches, and MSDWT faculty are all invited to attend.
The first in the series will investigate contemporary concussion management on Tuesday August 21, at 7:00 PM in the North Central High School auditorium. Colts Team Head Physician and Orthopedic Surgeon, Art Rettig will be on hand as will Featured Speaker Terry Horner, MD. Board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Horner has been a neurosurgical consultant to the Indianapolis Colts for many years. “I have been fortunate to practice operative neurosurgery for over 30 years, during which time I have dedicated my best efforts to the prevention and treatment of diseases of the brain and sports injuries,” says Dr. Horner.
The seminar series is free with each presentation lasting approximately 1 hour.
The series continues in November with the topic of common athletic injuries and conditions, including prevention and treatment of skin issues (MRSA). Topics in 2013 will include common injuries and treatment of foot and ankle conditions, and youth sports summer camps and recreational sports participation.
“I am very pleased with the relationship with IU Health and Methodist Sports Medicine,” said North Central Athletic Director Chuck Jones. “August 21st will be a great opportunity for all families to learn about concussions and their impact on student athletes.”
