Frequently Asked Questions

I am very excited about Washington Township’s International Baccalaureate K-12 Initiative. How can I become more involved?

Washington Township welcomes all community and parental involvement in our schools. Talk to your student’s teacher and administrator about specific ways you can become involved at the building level.

How can I obtain more information about all three International Baccalaureate programs?

To obtain more information about International Baccalaureate, visit their website at www.ibo.org

How are the International Baccalaureate programs different from what Washington Township is already doing?

International Baccalaureate at Washington Township will enhance the teaching and learning for all students. While still teaching Indiana state standards, IB will provide all students with an international education by guiding students to make connections with what they are learning to the world around them. Additionally, all students will be exposed to a world language beginning no later than second grade.

How can my student become a part of the International Baccalaureate program?

All Washington Township students in the elementary and middle schools are automatically enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program at their school. The elementary and middle school programs are all-inclusive programs designed to benefit all children. Students in grade nine and ten at North Central High School are also automatically enrolled in the program. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program at North Central High School is for selected students only. Please visit North Central’s IB website for more information regarding its Diploma Program.

Will students with special needs be required to be a part of the International Baccalaureate program?

The Primary and Middle Years Program is designed for all students and flexible to meet the learning needs of all students.

My students are learning English as a second language.  Will they be required to learn a third language?

Students who are learning English as a second language will receive instruction in English and be encouraged to continue to develop their mother tongue. The decision to enroll a student in a third language will be made on an individual basis depending on the need of the student.
