Washington Township Superintendent Dr. Nikki Woodson accepted an invitation by 60 North Central students in the AVID program to come and share her story.   ” The AVID system accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional development, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.   The formula is simple – raise expectations of students and, with the AVID support system in place, they will rise to the challenge. What differentiates AVID from other educational reform programs is its astounding success rate.” www.avid.org

The students prepared thoughtful questions about Dr. Woodson’s choices and planning to obtain her goals.  Dr. Woodson shared candidly with the students about her choices, good and bad, to help the students see that obstacles can be overcome and motivate them to take charge of their futures.  “Our AVID program provides a tremendous support to students.  It was an honor to share my personal story with them.  I want them to see me as a real person who had to make mistakes and tough decisions to make my dreams happen.”

Dr. Woodson finds one of the best parts of her job as Superintendent is interacting in meaningful ways with students.
