The Indiana Department of Education has recognized the J. Everett Light Career Center as one of three Career-Technical Education Centers (CTE) in Indiana that have passed all eight student performance indicators.

What does that mean?

It means that graduates of the JELCC are ready to jump right in to technical careers, ranging from Dental Assisting to Culinary Arts to Welding. “Our students are leaving us with highly-technical skills and certifications that ensure they are prepared for college and the workplace,” said Shawn Wright-Browner, Director of JELCC.

The State of Indiana grades all Career-Technical Education Centers on the basis of students’ academic achievement in math and reading, as well as technical skill attainment and graduation rate. In addition, the state looks at how well the Centers serve non-traditional students, and how many graduates are placed in jobs in their field of expertise.

“The J. Everett Light Career Center is one of central Indiana’s premier institutions for career and technical education,” said Superintendent Nikki Woodson. “There’s a good reason that we attract so many students from outside Washington Township: they have confidence that when they complete our program, they will be ready for college or the workplace, with the skills that employers are looking for right now.”
