Come to the NC Athletics seminar on November 28th @ 7PM in the NC auditorium for your chance to win! One lucky name will be drawn at the end of the evening, to win 2 tickets to the December 9th Colts vs. Titans game. Winning is fun, but the true prize is arming yourself with education when it comes to students and athletics. And what a better opportunity, than to learn from the same physicians who tend to our Indianapolis Colts.

NC Athletics continues its long-standing partnership with IU Health and Methodist Sports Medicine, by giving back to the MSDWT community. This school year, the partnership is bringing a series of informational seminars relating to sports medicine and injury. On the schedule to present are professionals in the industry, ranging from orthopedic specialists to staff physicians for the Indianapolis Colts. Athletes in Washington Township Schools, their parents, coaches, and MSDWT faculty are all invited to attend.

On November 28 the conversation continues in the North Central auditorium at 7pm. Featured speaker, Thurman V. Alvey III, DO, Primary Care Physician of the Indianapolis Colts will discuss common athletic injuries and conditions, including the prevention and treatment of skin issues (MRSA). Dr. Alvey specializes in non-operative Primary Care Sports Medicine, including acute musculoskeletal injury, concussion management, exercise prescription, sports dermatology, and medical conditions in athletes.

The first seminar took place in August and investigated contemporary concussion management. ” The Concussion Seminar was very informative to me, as a parent of student athletes,” said Maggie Kelly (children attend NC and Greenbriar). “Having access to this caliber of medical professionals through North Central Athletics and Methodist Sports Medicine, is an amazing benefit of being affiliated with athletics in Washington Township. After attending the seminar, I now know what to look for concerning a concussion as well as the questions to ask. ”

If you were not able to attend the seminar in August, click the button below to watch a video of a presentation, by Dr. Horner, neurosurgical consultant to the Indianapolis Colts, on concussions.

“I am very pleased with the relationship with IU Health and Methodist Sports Medicine,” said North Central Athletic Director Chuck Jones. “November 28th will be a great opportunity for all families to learn about common athletic injuries and conditions, from the respected physicians of Methodist Sports Medicine and the Indianapolis Colts.”

The series will continue on February 27, 2013 and April 9, 2013. Topics will include common injuries and treatment of foot and ankle conditions, and youth sports summer camps and recreational sports participation.

The seminar series is free. The presentation lasts approximately 1 hour. You must be present to win tickets.
