North Central High School and Purdue University have come together to sponsor an educational workshop on NCAA compliance issues on Tuesday, April 16, at 9 a.m. at North Central High School.
“With the ever-changing landscape of compliance and recruiting complexities, the workshop is designed to provide a wide range of information to Indiana high schools,” said North Central Athletic Director Chuck Jones. “The North Central and Purdue Athletic departments saw this as an opportunity to bring together high schools of varying size and geographical locations, who are also working with college-bound student athletes, to help educate about the eligibility and recruiting rules of the NCAA.”
The workshop will provide an open forum for schools to receive clarifications on questions that they have, with the structure of the day revolving around three main topics:
- Initial Eligibility – Nick Sproull, NCAA Eligibility Center Staff Member
- Recruiting / Enforcement Issues and Trends – Ken Huber and Brynna Barnhart, NCAA Enforcement Staff
- Practical Compliance – Tom Mitchell, Director Of Compliance, Purdue University
The North Central High School / Purdue partnership is expecting 100 people in attendance, representing about 50 schools from the Central Indiana area. Principals, athletic directors, guidance counselors and coaches from schools as far away as Richmond, Terre Haute, Bloomington and Chalmers are scheduled to attend. “Our goal is to reach as many high school athletic departments as possible,” said Tom Mitchell, Director of Compliance for Purdue Athletics. “We are hopeful that the information that is made available on April 16 will assist coaches, athletic directors and, ultimately prospective student athletes, in better understanding the intricacies of the NCAA compliance issues.”
North Central High School Athletics continues to play a leadership role in high school athletics across the state, providing information and forums and acting as a convener.
