Phase I Construction Projects FAQ

Which school sites will be affected during Phase I of construction?

The current school sites at 7535 Harcourt Rd. and 3575 E. 79th St. will have new elementary schools constructed after demolition of the currently closed schools on property.  Based on broad based community feedback, the School Board approved the two names of the new elementary schools during the regularly scheduled school board meeting on May 18, 2017:

Clearwater Elementary School (3575 E. 79th St., Indianapolis, IN 46240)

Willow Lake Elementary School (7535 Harcourt Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46260 )

Who will attend these two new schools?

Over the next 12 to 18 months, the District will engage the community in a process of rebalancing enrollment for our elementary and middle schools.  Attendance boundaries for all of the current elementary schools as well as the new elementary schools will be established in order to address current overcrowding.  Additionally, middle school attendance boundaries will be reviewed and established to address the current imbalance of enrollment among our three middle schools.  These changes are the result of increased numbers of families selecting our Washington Township Schools because of the outstanding quality of education opportunities available in our District.

Who are the design and construction professionals assigned?

The School Board approved professional services contracts for Phase I of our referendum construction work on April 12, 2017 and are as follows:

Design Services:  CSO Architects, Inc. (former Wyandotte Site and Harcourt Site)

Construction Management Services for Clearwater Elementary School (former Wyandotte Site): The Skillman Corporation

Construction Management Services for Willow Lake Elementary School (former Harcourt Site): Smoot Construction, LLC

What is the estimated amount of referendum funds that will be used for Phase 1?

The estimated cost of construction to build the two new elementary schools is $22,850,000 each, for a total of $45,700,000.  The funds to build these two new schools will come from the overwhelming support of voters who approved the $185 million referendum in November 2016.

What is the general timeline for Phase I of construction?

The anticipated opening of the two new elementary schools is Fall of 2019.

Will the other schools be renovated?

Yes.  Renovations will be completed at all three levels (elementary, middle and high school) across the district over the next five to seven years in upcoming construction phases.
