School Board Update

On behalf of the Washington Township School Board, I would like to welcome everyone back to what the board believes will be another successful year for our students, their families, and the educators who are devoted to the success of our students. We are proud of our district and its diverse student body’s record of achievement, and believe you are, or will be, equally proud of your educational home.

These are exciting times in Washington Township and we are pleased to continue our International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum of international education in our schools!  Our Elementary Schools were authorized PYP IB Schools in 2012 and our Secondary Schools were authorized MYP IB Schools in 2014. We are currently one of only a few public districts offering IB to all students in all schools in the United States.  Our hard-working faculty, staff and administrators remain committed to the over 11,300 students who attend our schools each and every day of the school year.

Following the recent passage of a 185 million dollar construction referendum by our supportive community, the district’s professional partners are busy constructing two new elementary schools (Willow Lake to the west and Clearwater to the east). All of our schools will be renovated in the next five years.

On a related note, on May 9, 2018, the Board approved new attendance boundaries for our elementary and middle schools.  These new attendance boundaries will be effective next school year (the 2019-2020 school year). You can use the interactive map on the district’s website to determine if your attendance boundaries have changed.

Looking ahead, in the upcoming November 2018 election, two (2) individuals will be elected to four (4)-year terms on Washington Township’s five (5) member school board. The district’s website provides additional information regarding election to the school board.  School board members will confirm that serving on the board is extremely challenging and highly rewarding.

I encourage you to be involved, in a way that works for you and your family, in our educational community.

Donald B. Kite, Sr.

MSDWT School Board President, 2017- July 2018
