Adult Basic Education (ABE) –Ages 18+
Adult Basic Education (ABE) is a learning program to help you refresh and improve academic skills needed to prepare for college, enroll in career training, help children with homework, prepare for the High School Equivalency (HSE) test, or review content before entering the workforce. Classes are open to all adults, regardless of academic level. The classes are offered in conjunction with the High School Equivalency test preparation.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)- (12-14 weeks)
The need for dependable, qualified caregivers is growing as the elderly population grows. There are opportunities ranging from hospitals to home health agencies to long term care facilities. The Certified Nursing Assistant, CNA, plays an important role. The basic CNA Training Program, prepares the student for immediate employment as a nursing assistant. Accredited by the North Central Association and the Indiana State Board of Health. *Pass state test upon completion.
Requirements: 18 years of age, High school diploma or working towards HSED , Clean criminal background.
Day/ Times: Tuesday & Thursday 5:00p – 8:00p & Saturdays 9:00a – 2:00p

Paraprofessional Training and Certification- 8 weeks / 56 hrs.
This certification is integrated within our adult basic education classes over 8 weeks allows you to become an instructional assistant and/or substitute teach in K-12. US or non US based High school diploma required to work with this certification.
Requirements: 18 years of age, High school diploma or working towards HSED, clean criminal background. Note: to get a job in K-12 schools you will need a High School Diploma or HSED.

Bridging the Gap Medical Interpreting Training (7-8 weeks)
In partnership with LUNA language services
This entry level certification is a language-neutral course, taught in English, is open to speakers of all languages. Prior experience in the medical and/or interpreting fields is helpful, but not required. This training prepares individuals to become successful medical interpreters. The course will conclude with an exam for licensure as a certified medical interpreter, a nationally and industry-recognized credential awarded by the Cross Cultural Health Care Program based out of Seattle, Washington.
Class Requirements: SS# or work permit, enroll in MSDWT Adult Education program, complete full TABE assessment and meet minimum requirements -NRS level 3 in reading & language and have speaking and listening skills that do not require repeating, pass a 1hour PHONE language proficiency assessment (LPA) administered via LUNA language services (1/2 hour in English and ½ in the language of choice).

Welding – AWS recognized MIG training (10–11 weeks)
A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills in an entry level welding career. Learn to weld and earn a career – Industry Certifications at J. Everett Light Career Center which prepares adults for in-demand careers by offering training classes resulting in increased technical skills and industry recognized credentials.
American Welding Society (AWS) Industry Recognized Welding Class
Accelerated 10 week program offering:
AWS -MIG Certification, basic blue print reading, General Safety – OSHA 10 certification, welding symbols, intro to stick welding, assistance with: resume building and job placement.
Requirements: face to face meeting to discuss class expectations and career goals, High school diploma or working towards HSE, 18 years of age, complete full TABE assessment to enroll in the MSDWT adult education program, $25 for OSHA 10, purchase own welding helmet, jacket and gloves.
