Superintendent Message

Twenty-five years later, we remember.
Today, we join our nation in honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the heroes who responded, and the countless individuals whose acts of courage and service brought communities together.

For many of our students, September 11 is history rather than memory. As a school community, we understand our important role in helping them understand its significance and the lessons of service, compassion, resilience, and unity that continue to resonate today.

We remember together and honor all who serve our communities and our country.

25th Anniversary of 9/11

This week at Allisonville Elementary, lessons in the library were created to introduce the students to Patriot’s Day - National Day of Service and Remembrance and recognize Community Service Workers and Volunteers who helped on 9/11 and in our community every day. There were interactive displays in the library with a variety of books, pictures, and artifacts for the students to explore. Teachers discussed what students can do today, September 11, to serve someone in our community. Many students shared ideas ranging from simple acts of kindness to helping neighbors, homeless, and hungry, to letters and phone calls to military and community helpers. Enjoy the collection of photos below.

The Allisonville library shared this link to an organization committed to making the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 the "largest day of doing good."

Different read alouds were also used with each grade level.  For example, the read aloud linked here based on a true story: Fireboat; The Heroic Adventures of the John J. Harvey

We Grow Panthers Spotlight

Second graders at Crooked Creek have been hard at work learning about the writing process! Students are learning that writing is an important way to communicate their ideas. Writers pick an idea and plan out their thoughts, then write, revise, edit, and publish. Students are also taking ownership of their writing by moving through the writing process at their own pace and tracking their progress on the classroom writing process board. We are so proud of their growth in just one month of school!

National Suicide Prevention Month

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and our WTS staff is dedicated to supporting students as they navigate the challenges that can feel overwhelming through protective factors. Protective factors are the positive supports, relationships, and coping skills in a child’s life that reduce the risk of suicide. They don’t prevent all struggles, but they do help kids feel safer, stronger, and more supported. Download and printable resources are attached at the bottom of this ParentSquare.

Mark Your Calendar to Explore Our Secondary Schools

Families are invited to attend our Secondary School Open Houses on Sunday, November 1, from 2–5 p.m. Visit Westlane Middle School, Eastwood Middle School, Northview Middle School, or North Central High School to learn more about the opportunities available to students, meet educators and staff, and experience what makes our schools special. We look forward to welcoming current and prospective families!

Attendance Counts

Regular attendance helps students feel connected, confident, and ready to learn. Consistent attendance gives students opportunities to build relationships with classmates, connect with supportive teachers, and develop a sense of belonging in their school community. It also helps students keep pace with learning, reducing the stress of trying to catch up after missed days.

Help your child build the habit of being at school and on time, every day.
