WT Robotics Teams Compete

Westlane Middle School recently hosted 39 robotics teams bringing together over 200 Washington Township students from all elementary and middle schools across the district.

Teams competed in two challenges. In the Teamwork Challenge, pairs of robots faced off on a 6' x 8' field during 60-second matches, requiring students to collaborate to score points. The Robot Skills Challenge tested both driver-controlled and autonomous programming abilities, with students aiming to maximize their robot's point total through minimal human interaction.

The students had a lot of fun and learned how to work together on a team as part of the Robotics Program at each of the district schools. They also reported that robotics helped their problem solving skills because “sometimes the robot doesn’t do what you want it to do, so you have to figure out why.”

Robotics clubs are expanding across the district at all grade levels, offering students hands-on opportunities to design, build, program, and operate robots for structured competitions. These programs develop STEM (integrated science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) skills while fostering teamwork, critical thinking, and technical expertise. #WeGrowPanthers

Thank You

We extend our sincere thanks to our maintenance and custodial teams for their hard work in preparing the school grounds and facilities for the return of students and staff following the recent winter storm. Your dedication ensures our schools are safe, welcoming, and ready for learning!

DSP Community Update

If you were unable to attend the Board meeting this past Wednesday, we invite you to review the mid-year update on our District Strategic Plan. Our executive leadership team shared an overview of our progress during the first year of implementation. You can listen to the audio presentation in Board Docs on the District website, from the Board menu drop down.

In addition, our strategic plan website includes both the Implementation Dashboard and the Goals Dashboard. By selecting the “Our Progress” button at the bottom of the page, you can see updates on key initiatives and track our progress toward district goals.

Thank you for your continued interest in our shared work to support student success.

2026-2027 District Calendar

The District calendar for the 2026-27 school year has been updated. Please review it and other district calendars on our website.

Panorama Student Survey

In an effort to learn more about student experiences at school, we will be asking for your child’s feedback via two online surveys they will be completing at school. The survey window is March 16-27, and each survey should not take more than 10 minutes to complete.

Indiana statute requires the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) and Washington Township Schools to provide parents and students notice of your rights. We are partnering with a third-party vendor to support us in administering the upcoming Spring 2026 survey. The content of the survey will ask students to reflect on their classroom and school experiences and their well-being related to school. We are asking that all of our students participate in the survey, as their feedback will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. Please note that if a student does not feel like they have enough information to answer a question they will be able to skip the item altogether.

If you wish to review the survey materials, they are available on our website. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please do not hesitate to contact your school principal. And, if you would like your child to opt out of taking the surveys, please log in to Skyward, click on “Online Forms” and complete the Panorama Survey Form no later than March 6.

North Central Senior Class Blood Drive

The North Central High School senior class officers are hosting their annual blood drive on Friday, February 6th. Last year the senior class collected 193 units of blood, with over 120 first-time donors.

While the NC Blood Drive is for staff and students only, any member of the Washington Township community who donates to a Versiti Blood Center and indicates they are representing North Central can help fuel the North Central effort this year and save three lives in the process.

North Central continually is recognized as being the largest single-day high school blood drive in the state.

National School Counseling Week

February 2-6 is National School Counseling Week. WTS school counselors support all students to achieve school success and plan for a career. Our 31 school counselors across the elementary, middle, and high school levels implement comprehensive school counseling programs and are a vital part of the educational process for all students as they meet the challenges of the 21st century.
