Washington Township recognizes one teacher at each school, each school year, as the Teacher of the Year. Out of these recognized teachers, one is selected to represent the district in the Indiana Department Of Education’s selection process for the Indiana Teacher of the Year program. The National Teacher of the Year is then selected from among the state Teachers of the Year. To date, Washington Township has had 4 Indiana Teacher’s of the Year, the most recent being North Central Latin Teacher Steve Perkins, named in 2013. In addition, the district recognizes an exceptional First Year Teacher from Elementary and one from Secondary, one classified staff person per location, an Administrator of the Year, and selects an employee to be recognized with the Phil Smith Above and Beyond Award. All of these awards recognize employees who go above and beyond for the common goal of teaching and learning in our district. These achievements are celebrated at the end of each school year in an all-staff celebration.
