Don’t Let Anyone Dull Your Sparkle – Clearwater 2nd Grader Shines in IRT Production

When you meet Dalila “Lila” Yoder, a Clearwater Elementary School 2nd grader, her eyes sparkle as she tells you about something exciting she is doing: appearing on stage in the Indiana Repertory Theater’s (IRT) production of “The Watsons go to Birmingham.” She portrays a young girl, Joey, in this Civil Rights-Era story set in 1963. Lila shares that she and Joey have a lot in common – they both like dolls, poufy dresses and accessorizing. While this is Lila’s first major production, she takes it all in stride and has learned a lot, “like how you are not supposed to look at the audience, but they need to be able to see your face.” She enjoys chatting with the audience after the show, and joking around with her fellow cast members. Along with acting, Lila loves Clearwater Elementary School and is looking forward to learning subtraction and multiplication. She loves people who make her laugh and is indeed living out her motto of “Don’t let anyone dull your sparkle.” Part of the IRT’s INclusion Series: Celebrating Diverse Storytelling, “The Watsons Go to Birmingham” runs through March 7, 2020.
