Loggan Family Naming Wishes, Endorsed by School Board

INDIANAPOLIS – (May 14, 2020) – To honor the life and legacy of Paul Loggan, beloved North Central Athletic Director who died from the coronavirus in April, his family has determined the most fitting tribute on the North Central campus after numerous recommendations for an appropriate honor were made to the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township. The family’s wish is for the proposed new West Gymnasium to bear his name, a recommendation endorsed by the Washington Township Board of Education at a school board meeting conducted virtually on May 13.

“Paul Loggan lived and breathed North Central High School and Washington Township Schools for more than 30 years,” said Kathy Loggan, his wife. “From starting out as a teacher, and then as a coach and Athletic Director, there was nothing more that Paul wanted but for his student athletes to have what other school districts offered their student populations.”
The family shared that Mr. Loggan was focused on student athletes and the continuous building of North Central’s athletic program. This passion was illustrated by acts such as running into a burning gymnasium to get students out of locker rooms as well as hosting as many athletic events as possible on the North Central campus to give his student athletes the opportunity to play in front of their families and fans.
“Naming the West Gym after Paul would be an amazing way to honor him. He gave everything he had to Washington Township Schools and I know that if he had an opportunity to do it again, he would not hesitate,” Kathy said. “Putting his name on a building is not going to bring him back, but to every student whose life he touched or to the many in our community who were blessed to know him, it would be an honor he so deserves.”
The Washington Township Board of Education approved the family’s recommendation in a unanimous vote. The school board resolution noted that naming a facility for an individual is one of the highest honors that the District can bestow, and this recognition is an ongoing affirmation of Mr. Loggan’s connection and dedication to the District’s educational community.
