November Recognitions

At the November 15, 2023 Regular Meeting of the Board of Education the following individuals were recognized for helping to make Washington Township a Superior School District.

Congratulations to NC Senior Alex Antonopoulos who is the state champion for the IHSAA #1 singles tournament. Alex finished off his career with a record of 102-5.  Alex was the 2021 state singles runner up, a member of the 2022 boy’s state championship team and the 2023 individual state singles champion.  Alex was a team captain this year and named first team all-state 3 years in a row.  He will be continuing his education and tennis career at Western Michigan University next fall. Congratulations Alex and we wish the best at Western Michigan University.

Congratulations to the NC Cheer Team who won a state title. The 2023 Indiana State Cheer Championships are conducted by the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP). NC cheer team competes in the Time Out Division which is the largest division at State. The Time Out Division is judged on actual crowd “leading,” tumbling, stunts, energy and enthusiasm. The team went into the State prelims seated 1st after submitting a video to the IASP. Thirty teams submitted videos and 14 teams were selected from their video submissions. This year the Panthers participated in several competitions experiencing a strong and competitive competition season leading up to State. Oct 21st they hosted the Indiana State Varsity cheer prelims for IASP and Oct 28th they hosted the Junior High and Junior Varsity State Cheer Championships. So, they have been incredibly busy since tryouts in May. Saturday the 2023 Indiana State Championships were held at New Castle HS in New Castle, Indiana. Their next quest is to compete Nov 19th at the UCA regionals at HSE. If they do well and qualify, they would like to compete at the Nationals Cheer Championships at Disney World in Orlando, Florida February 9 – 12th. “This has been an awesome year for the team strong student leadership, supportive parents, awesome community support, passionate assistant coaches, incredible backing by our Athletic Department and an array of positive encouragement and support from our Administration/CEC. Washington Township Schools is pleased to announce Dr. Nataki Pettigrew has been named as our Chief Academic and DEI Officer. Dr. Pettigrew is a transformative educator with extensive, diverse experiences in teaching, system-level leadership, curriculum and instruction, and student services. Most recently, she has served as the Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer for Hamilton Southeastern Schools, fulfilling that role since 2021. Additionally, Pettigrew spent 20 years of her career in Marion County, specifically designing academic programs and services to meet the varied needs of her students through experience as a Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Principal, High School Teacher, and Academic Team Lead.
