INDIANAPOLIS, IN (July 21, 2021) – Washington Township is excited to announce the appointment of Mr. Kevin Gant as the seventh head boys basketball coach in school history.  As a senior he was the starting point guard on the North Central state runner up team.  Known as a tenacious defender he went on to Lake Michigan College, and later to Division II University of Southern Indiana.  University of Southern Indiana’s overall record during his three years was 75-16 with two NCAA tournament appearances.

After his playing career concluded he stayed on campus at Southern Indiana for two seasons as the volunteer assistant coach and strength and conditioning coordinator.  From 2013 to 2015, Gant was on Coach Doug Mitchell’s staff at North Central.  In 2015, he returned to the University of Southern Indiana as an assistant coach where the Eagles went 171-64 with six twenty-win seasons and one final four appearance. He remained at University of Southern Indiana until this appointment.

“His attention to detail and knowledge of the complete college basketball operation are unmatched,” said former Eagle’s head coach Rodney Watson. “Kevin is a natural leader and excellent communicator.”

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead this program,” said Coach Gant. “Serving the youth and competing for championships is what North Central is all about, and I am ready to get to work. North Central is home and it’s great to be back.”

Coach Gant will also be employed at North Central as a Graduation Coach.
