Washington Township Families and Staff,
2020 has proven undeniably challenging, thus far, for our community. The most recent death of George Floyd, as well as other horrific unjust deaths, leading to the events that have transpired across the country prompted this communication. While we do not condone violence or crime, we do support justice.
As leaders of Washington Township Schools, we have a compassionate desire to be with our students and staff during these times of emotional distress. We know our community is likely feeling fear, hurt, anxiety, anger, frustration, and hopelessness. We especially acknowledge our Black students, families, and staff who are experiencing these emotions at a higher level and have done so for far too long. We desire to connect, to listen, to support our WT students, families, and staff because we know that we are stronger when we are together.
As a community, we remain committed to being part of the solution in addressing racism and social injustice working alongside our Black community. Together, we have an obligation to act and educate with urgency and deliberacy. We stand in solidarity with our Black community and everyone involved in peaceful actions against this long-time practice of institutional racism and injustice.
Sincerely, Leadership of Washington Township Schools
