It is the goal of Student Programs to provide services and support to students, families, teachers, principals and community members in the following areas:
- School Attendance
- District Residency Requirements
- Community Partnerships
- Assistance for Foster Youth
- Community Mental Health Support
- Health Services
- McKinney-Vento Homeless Education
The federal McKinney-Vento Act guarantees school enrollment for anyone who, due to a lack of permanent housing, lives in inadequate or temporary settings, such as;
- In emergency or transitional shelters
- In motels, hotels or campgrounds
- In cars, parks, public places, bus or train stations, or abandoned buildings
- Doubled up with relatives or friends
- In these conditions and is migratory child or youth
Children and youth living in these settings meet the criteria for the McKinney-Vento definition of homelessness and have special educational rights. If you are in this situation, know someone who is, or need more information, please contact:
