At the October 12, 2016 Regular Meeting of the Board of Education the following individuals and groups were recognized for helping to make Washington Township a Superior School District.
Joyce Click
The California Casualty Award for teaching excellence is an award given to an outstanding teacher. The NEA Foundation chooses the winner each year based on nominations. The NEA Foundation is a public charity. Joyce Click is this year’s winner and will receive $650 for her school as well as an opportunity to attend the formal NEA Gala in Washington DC. Many educators consider this opportunity the Academy Awards of their profession.
Meena Morthy – North Central High School Student named 2016 Indiana Outstanding High School Student
Meena Moorthy has been selected by the Indiana Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese as one of the recipients of the 2016 Indiana Outstanding High School Student of Spanish Award. Meena’s dedication and passion for Spanish were evident in the dossier she presented for the award. The Award Ceremony will take place on November 5th at the Sheraton Hotel Indianapolis.
Erin Lizer – North Central High School Teacher – 2016 EXTIMO- Exceptional Teaching Impact and Motivation Award
The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese will present the Exceptional Teaching Impact and Motivation Student Voice Award for Outstanding Spanish teacher to Erin Lizer on November 5th because her student Meena Moorthy identified her as her inspiration and motivation to study Spanish in high school.
Kaitlin Baumgartner – Spring Mill Second Grade Teacher – Folgers Perfect Measures Award
Folgers Perfect Measures spotlights one local community member from Kansas City, St. Louis and Indianapolis who is up early, relies on coffee and most importantly, brightens others’ mornings. Kaitlin was nominated by former Spring Mill teacher Kathy Hogan because Kaitlin is amazing. In addition to being a mother to three young children; Kaitlin teachers 27 second graders and runs a small business. She takes time with her students and their families and makes sure their needs are met both at school and at home. Folgers will reward Kaitlin with a year’s supply of Folgers Coffee, treat her and her colleagues to breakfast and coffee on National Coffee Day and will give a $10,000 donation to Spring Mill Elementary.
