At the March 8, 2017 Regular Meeting of the Board of Education the following individuals and groups were recognized for helping to make Washington Township a Superior School District.
More than 7,500 students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades across the state competed in the Math Bowl Competition sponsored by IASP (Indiana Association of School Principals) and Purdue University. This year’s questions were based on fifth, sixth, and seventh grade mathematic standards in the topics of Number Sense, Computation, Data Analysis, and Probability.
Math Bowl Competition Winners – Daya Vestal, Chayse Jacks, Kasey Fisher, Carson Hoberty, Clinton Odom, Ai Jared, Justin Kelley, Christian Woodson, Rex Faser, Connor Harmon, Mwee Shee, Isaiah Wade, Olivia Hammons, Jordan White, Josiah Foor – Teachers Susan Cosand, Brittany Stevens and Kellie Combs
16 schools competed at North Central as a part of the Math Bowl competition. Schools compete against other schools of similar make-up. All 7 of our MSDWT elementary schools competed in the Orange Class which consisted of teams with only 4th and/or 5th graders with an enrollment of 163 or more. Crooked Creek Elementary was the top scorer in the orange class. In overall state rankings, they were 16th in the orange class.
Abrams Academic Achievement Award Winner – Endya Daniels –Westlane Middle School
For the 16th consecutive season, the Indiana Pacers, in partnership with Pacers team ophthalmologist Dr. John Abrams,
presented the Abrams Academic Achievement Awards at the Pacers vs. Houston Rockets game. The Abrams Academic Achievement Awards were established to recognize area elementary and/or middle-school students for their academic and leadership performance in school.
This year the Indiana Pacers and Dr. Abrams selected 10 area middle and elementary schools in which to partner for this program, and from those schools, one 6th – 8th grade student was selected to receive the award. All of the students received four tickets to the game and were treated to a pregame dinner and reception. In addition, these students were also recognized during a halftime, on-court ceremony. Each student also received a Laptop Computer, courtesy of Dr. Abrams, a Certificate of Achievement and Pacers goodie bag.

Congratulations to Eastwood’s Team for winning the State Spanish Competition. Eastwood competed against other Spanish Teams across the State at Zionsville High School on February 4th. Team Members placed in several competitions but overall Eastwood won 1st Place Middle School in the State of Indiana.
Abe Lincoln Scholarship Award Winner – Jessica Borum – North Central High School Student
The Kiwanis Club of Indianapolis honored 25 area high school seniors who have achieved success despite overcoming
significant obstacles and presented $41,000 in scholarships to four of the candidates at its 42nd annual Abe Lincoln Scholarship Awards Banquet on Friday, February 10th. Candidates were nominated by their high schools because of their courageous achievements in the face of daunting obstacles and hardships. These awards celebrate perseverance and spirit. Four students received scholarships. Jessica was one of them receiving $8,000!
Cheesman Award Winner – Mrs. Susie Bremen – North Central High School College Admissions Counselor
Mrs. Bremen was named the 2017 Dorothy Cheesman Award Winner. This award is given to an individual who
distinguishes himself or herself by exemplary service to students in their search for post-secondary education. He or she is also involved in service and leadership with the Indiana Association for College Admission Counseling.
Mr. Tom Gayda – North Central High School Journalism Teacher
Mr. Gayda was recently named Ball State’s Department of Journalism’s 2017 Indiana Scholastic Journalism Award recipient!
