INDIANAPOLIS, IN (June 27, 2014) – Ms. Angela Britain-Smith has been named Director of Operations for the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township. She will replace veteran administrator Mr. Phil Smith upon his retirement.
Ms. Britain-Smith brings 17 years of experience in the education field to her new role, ranging from Media Specialist to Information Services Director and Assistant Principal. Currently Ms. Britain-Smith serves as an Assistant Principal at North Central High School, where she has served in that role since 2010.
“It is an honor to be named the new MSDWT Director of Operations and to follow a phenomenal leader, Mr. Phil Smith,” said Angela Britain-Smith. “It will be my personal aim to continue the tradition of excellence that our students, teachers, parents and community showcase each and every day.”
As an enthusiastic member of the North Central High School leadership team, Angela Britain-Smith actively oversees a diverse student body of 3500 students while working with the NCHS Principal in leading a high-performance team of 200 professionals, including classified staff, building substitutes, food services, maintenance and custodial staff. Ms. Britain-Smith’s qualifications extend to management of building facilities, maintenance, custodial, food services, curriculum (IB-MYP and AVID) and the Washington Township Summer School Program.
Britain-Smith is a graduate of Butler University, Experiential Program for Preparing School Principals ( Masters of Science and Indiana School Administration Licensure), Indiana University/Purdue University (Bachelor of Science – Library Services K-12 & Speech/Communications 5-12), and Indiana Vocational Technical College (Associate in Applied Science Human Services/Social Work), and is also an Indiana Certified Safety Specialist.
MSDWT Superintendent Dr. Nikki Woodson states, “The Director of Operations role is important to the entire district. Ensuring efficient and effective operations is critical to our ability to provide an optimal learning environment for students to learn and for teachers to teach. I am thrilled to have Ms. Britain-Smith join the executive leadership team for Washington Township.”
Britain-Smith begins her official duties as MSDWT Director of Operations on August 1, 2014.
