Dr. Ena Shelley, Dr. Brooke Kandel and Dr. Susan Adams – Butler College of Education

From Education Insight: The Butler University College of Education has become the first College of Education in Indiana authorized to offer teacher certification courses in International Baccalaureate (IB) education for primary and middle grades.  The decision to pursue IB recognition came in response to requests from the College’s IB partnership districts and schools, the MSD of Washington Township, the International School of Indiana, and the Indianapolis Public Schools’ Gambold Preparatory Magnet High School and the Center for Inquiry schools No. 2 and No. 84.  The College of Education will begin offering a sequence of four IB certificate courses in summer of 2014 for practicing teachers and those enrolled in certain Master’s Programs.

Susan Adams and Brooke Kandel-Cisco provided extraordinary leadership in creating the opportunity for the Butler COE to become formally recognized by the I.B. organization to offer the PYP and MYP certificate program for educators.  The College Of Education will be one of twenty-two higher education institutions worldwide to offer these levels of I.B. certification!

Over the next few years, Butler’s College of Education may also seek recognition to offer IB certification options for undergraduate pre-service teacher candidates and the IB Diploma Programme Certificate, which covers instruction for college bound 16 to 19 year olds.
