“Dr. Mendez brings not only exceptional Principal leadership experiences but proven success with raising achievement for diverse populations of students in urban public schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Nikki Woodson. “His ability to set a vision for achievement impacting the success of ALL students, collaborate with stakeholders to execute the vision and yield results exceeding set goals have been recognized at both the state and national levels. We are excited for his leadership as he joins the North Central High School community to support Washington Township Schools’ high expectations of excellence for all students.”

Dr. Mendez has a track record of raising achievement for all students while leading racially and socio-economically diverse schools. He currently serves as Principal of Seymour Middle School and previously served as a Principal for 10 years and Director of Secondary Education within Marion County. Dr. Mendez received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University at Indianapolis, his master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University, and his doctoral degree from Indiana State University.

Additionally, Dr. Mendez has been recognized for his exemplary leadership by multiple organizations, including the Indiana Department of Education, the Indiana Association of School Principals, the System for Teacher and Student Advancement, and the National Title I Association.  He has been named Principal of the Year in two different Indiana districts and is currently the Principal of the Year for the state of Indiana, which makes him a current contender for National Principal of the Year recognition.

“I have always had great respect for the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township,” said Dr. Mendez. “Their reputation for being on the cutting edge of educational practice is well-known in education circles. I would like to thank the administration, the school board, and all those stakeholders who took part in the search process for this opportunity. It is an honor to join the North Central High School and Washington Township Schools family. I can’t wait to get started.”
